Recycled materials firm American Manganese has received positive results from third-party testing of its RecycLiCo™ lithium-ion battery material recycling just weeks after completing the fifth and final stage of tests at its pilot plant.
The company has released the results from its independent contract laboratory Kemetco Research regarding tests by a tier-one firm— referred to as Company A due to a confidentiality agreement.
Company A reported a recovery of 88.75% for cobalt and 84.12% for nickel using the RecycLiCo™ process that recovers material from lithium-ion battery cathodes.
The tests are being used to determine the optimum conditions to operate a larger scale pilot run that will produce larger quantities of material for customer evaluation.
The material was received as long, fine strips, but the company believes the recoveries can be improved with a different size of shredding to enhance separation of the active material from the aluminium foil.
Norm Chow of Kemetco Research, said: “We have produced high quality nickel-cobalt hydroxide (see photo) from our initial tests of tier-one NCA cathode scrap and are optimising the conditions for a production run of a larger quantity of material for customer testing.”
American Manganese will report on results from a second tier-one firm when received.
