Enpower Energy, a Chinese manufacturer of aqueous ion batteries plans to complete large-scale tests of its technology by the end of this year and move to mass production in the middle of 2017, according to the Shanghai Daily newspaper.
The first generation 20MWh aqueous ion battery energy storage system can ensure that the cost of each charge and discharge cycle is less than $0.19 / kWh, which is cheaper than lithium-ion battery systems and lead-acid battery systems.
A 3000 cycle life is claimed at 100% DOD and 10 years of normal use.
Enpower Energy is the world’s second producer of aqueous ion batteries after the US firm Aquion Energy.
