German battery storage firm Sonnen has topped a ‘league table’ of home energy storage system providers on the European continent.
A survey by conducted by Bonn-based market and opinion research institute EuPD indicated Sonnen had a market share of 21% in 2017, followed by LG Chem (20%) and Varta Storage (10%).
Another Asian battery storage player featured was China’s BYD, with a 5% share for the period surveyed.
According to EuPD, the market volume for energy storage systems in the region has more than doubled since 2015.
Sonnen said earlier this year it would open a major production plant in South Australia— to manufacture 50,000 of its lithium iron phosphate battery storage systems over the next five years in Adelaide. The company said it would also switch its Australian HQ to Adelaide from Sydney.
