Battery maker Monbat NBP EOOD— a 100% subsidiary of Monbat AD— has submitted an intent to invest in the construction of a new lead-acid bipolar battery plant in Vratsa, Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian firm announced the plans, which are subject to approval, on 8 April.
Monbat is due to announce further information regarding the financial parameters of the project at that time.
Vanya Babanin, the company’s global director Marketing & Communications, said the company was unable to answer if the plant would produce bipolar batteries using the licensed GreenSeal® technology it bought at the end of 2018 from the US company Advanced Battery Concepts.
Babanin was also unable to answer questions on what capacity the plant will be or give a time line of plans including securing funding and when the new plant could possibly be commissioned.
The GreenSeal technology simplifies lead battery manufacturing and improves lead battery performance by increasing cycle life, lowering weight, reducing recharge time, and improving reliability.
It does this by reducing the battery’s lead-metal content by an average of 46% and more efficient working of the active materials through patented design.
