The Swedish Energy Agency has issued a grant of SEK3.8 million ($437,699) to drive a research project in zinc-ion technology as Sweden aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the battery industry.
The project aims to stimulate research and development of rechargeable zinc-ion battery technology, and strengthen Sweden’s competitiveness in battery technologies through expertise, innovation and systems thinking.
The group includes: zinc-ion battery company Enerpoly, lithium-in energy storage firm Polarium, Uppsala University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
Mylad Chamoun, co-founder and CTO at Enerpoly, said the project would take advantage of accumulated expertise on producing and scaling up zinc-ion battery technology within the project group and make this technology ready for commercialisation.
