Bill Cantor has won the 2014 Hall of Fame Award at the recent Battcon conference and exhibition in Boca Raton, Florida.
Cantor, vice president of technology for Test Products Inc., was recognized for his contribution in the field of DC arc flash hazard relating to batteries. DC arc flash is a high voltage short circuit event that has the potential to cause severe burns or death.
Cantor is a past chair of the IEEE Stationary Battery Technical Committee. Cantor has been the chair of the IEEE 1188 working group since 1995 and is a member of the IEEE Stationary Battery Technical Committee of the Power and Energy Society since 1992.
The award was presented by fellow Hall of Fame inductee Lesley Varga.
Cantor said: “The IEEE Stationary Battery Committee Codes Task Force has spent considerable time working on proposals to the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) with the intention of providing practical guidance for PPE (personal protective equipment) required for battery maintenance.
“The NFPA has recently taken a special interest in separating the hazard from the risk, something it has not done previously.”
