US energy storage firm cuts staff

Tue, 11/27/2012 - 17:36 -- Ruth Williams

US-based energy storage company Xtreme Power has cut most of the staff at its plant in Grove, Oklahoma. The facility makes lead-acid batteries and will operate with a skeleton staff while investors are sought to secure the facility’s future.

The cut has been attributed to a reduced demand for storage applications using advanced lead-acid batteries that the company produces. A company spokesman said the company feels customer demand is migrating toward different chemistries.

63 people have lost their jobs because of the cut.

There is a potential buyer who is a manufacturer operating in the same field.
