Vehicle OEM Jaguar Land Rover have revealed plans to build an electric vehicle and lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in the heart of England, according to reports.
JLR has already outlined a £500million, 30-acre, expansion plan in Coventry, but now the vehicle maker wants to go one step further.
The master plan was outlined during a presentation at the University of Warwick’s Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) base in the UK on November 24
The electric motors and 650kg, 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack for JLR’s connection new electric vehicle, the I-Pace car, were designed at Whitley in Coventry and Gaydon in Warwickshire.
However, four things need to happen before the UK sees another EV manufacturer and lithium-ion battery making facility.
Ironically JLR will have to set up a better energy link at Whitley, secondly more land is needed to build a sufficient road infrastructure, a 5g network and lastly infrastructure for drivers— such as charging points—also have to be established.
