The battery for the Formula E racecar will be an LG Chem lithium-ion battery, BEST understands.
The battery system, designed by Williams Advanced Engineering, that will go into the cars driven by the ten teams will feature a lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) battery produced by LG Chem. Further details are yet to be announced.
For the first season, all teams will drive Spark-Renault SRT_01E single-seater cars featuring the lithium NMC battery system. After the first season teams will be encouraged to design and enter their own cars.
The race series is intended to serve as a research and development ‘hotbed’ to propel electric vehicle technologies.
