GS Yuasa adds AGM battery to its motorcycle portfolio

Japanese battery maker GS Yuasa has added a new AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery to its portfolio of motorbike batteries.

The YTZ8V battery, which contains no liquid acid and can therefore be shipped from the factory ready to fit, will replace those used in the Yamaha sports bike YZF-R3 and the Honda PCX150 scooter.

Electrolyte is absorbed in the battery’s plates and separators, so there are no leaks on vehicle parts or accessories.

The YTZ8V provides a significant increase in power despite its small, lightweight size, delivering 120 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) despite measuring just 113mm x 70mm x 130mm and weighing 2.7 kilograms.

The AGM technology used in the YTZ8V is an advanced battery design that eliminates water loss, says the firm, and because of its lead-calcium design, will hold its specific gravity more than three times longer than conventional lead antimony types.

This means much longer periods between charges when the battery is used less frequently, such as winter storage.

GS Yuasa made a series of investments in its motorcycle battery output last year, boosting its lead-acid battery production capacity by 2.3 million units in Indonesia to meet demand from the Asian—particularly Chinese— market.

The increase in production was more than three times its increase in automotive battery production. More here:
