Connected Energy to deploy second-life battery ESS for real-time energy use and research project

Second-life battery developer Connected Energy is set to install an energy storage system in the UK using 24 used Renault Kangoo electric vehicle battery packs.

The £20 million ($25 million) 300kW/360kWh E-STOR system will help optimise energy use and peak loads across a system including PV, EV chargers and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).

Hydro and Northvolt launch joint venture to enable EV battery recycling in Norway

Norwegian firm Hydro and Swedish company Northvolt have established a 50/50 joint venture to enable recycling of battery materials and aluminum from used electric vehicle battery packs. 

Through Hydro Volt AS, the companies plan to build a battery recycling plant in Fredrikstad, Norway, with production expected to start next year.

South Korea to open dedicated lithium-ion EV battery recycling centre

South Korea has broken ground on the country’s first recycling centre dedicated to breaking and recycling electric vehicle battery packs.

South Korean company Earthtech will invest 24 billion won (US$20 million) in the recycling centre in Yeonggwang Country, South Jeolla Province, according to the country’s news outlet The Korea Bizwire.
