Rolls Royce opens microgrid validation centre in Germany

UK engineering firm Rolls-Royce has commissioned a Microgrid Validation Center at the headquarters of its Rolls-Royce Power Systems subsidiary in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

The center will undertake close-to-reality simulations of microgrids of various dimensions and configurations.

Flow battery firm opens R&D facility in Germany

Vehicle OEM Volkswagen Group has taken the first steps toward a large-scale lithium-ion battery production line with the opening of a pilot plant in Germany.

The pilot line for battery cell assembly has begun producing lithium-ion cells at VW's Center of Excellence in Salzgitter, Lower-Saxony.

Trial starts on second life lithium-ion energy storage system

Trial operations have begun on a second-life lithium-ion energy storage system for frequency regulation in Hamburg, Germany.

The 2MW (2,800kWh) project, which uses 2,600 battery modules from more than 100 BMW electric vehicles, began after successful completion of the design phase.
