Aqua Metals faces probe amid "retrofit" setback

US lead-acid battery recycling start-up Aqua Metals is facing a probe into “possible securities fraud violations” as it launches a “retrofit” of equipment to tackle new production problems.

The blows come just weeks after the firm, which is seeking to commercialise a water-based recycling process, posted further losses and said it was “significantly behind schedule” with production plans.

UN group urges Li-ion battery dumping probe

A United Nations-backed international study group has called for a worldwide investigation into uncontrolled dumping of lithium-ion batteries amid health and safety fears.

The International Lead and Zinc Study Group’s (ILZSG) economic and environment committee has proposed the move to investigate “the safety implications of lithium batteries becoming mixed with lead-acid batteries at collecting sites prior to recycling”.

Redflow suspends battery deliveries amidst ‘impurities’ probe

Australian energy storage firm Redflow Limited has suspended delivery of its flow batteries while the company investigates potential performance issues.

The Queensland-based company said laboratory testing of electrolyte samples from one “specifically-identified batch of 10 batteries indicate that they may be at risk of failure due to the presence of impurities in battery electrolyte”.
