Nexeon adds ‘Spice’ to silicon tech research

UK-based battery materials firm Nexeon is leading a project to optimise coating technology for its silicon material to boost the performance of battery cells.

Nexeon said the ‘Spice’ (Silicon Product Improvement through Coating Enhancement) project aims to extend the system compatibility of silicon anode materials, “allowing use of lower cost electrolyte formulations and lower overall battery cell costs”.

Nexeon wins EV battery research funding

UK-based battery materials firm Nexeon has been awarded GBP7million ($9.5m) to support research into silicon-based materials to increase the safety and range of batteries for electric vehicles.

Nexeon said the support from the government’s Innovate UK agency will support its work with partners on a project called ‘SUNRISE’ to develop improved materials, based on silicon as a replacement for carbon in the lithium-ion battery anode and optimising cell designs for automotive application.

UK lithium-ion battery materials company Nexeon has opened an office and development laboratory in Hakusan High-Tech Park, Japan.

Nexeon Japan K.K. has opened the office on the Hakusan High-Tech Park in Yokohama to have greater access to Nexeon’s ‘key target markets’ in the electronics and automotive sectors.

UK firm to open laboratory in Japan to develop silicon materials for next generation lithium-ion anodes

UK technology business Nexeon has completed a £30 million ($43.5million) funding round as it looks to commercialise its silicon materials for lithium-ion markets.

The completion allows Nexeon to move forward with plans for developing its silicon materials for next generation lithium-ion batteries.

Nexeon hires researchers from Sony

Battery material supplier Nexeon has appointed three senior researchers from Sony for its R&D department in Oxfordshire, UK.

Kenta Yamamoto, Kengo Ichimiya and Akifumi Nakamura have worked in battery developments in the past years at Sony.
