Hydro and Northvolt launch joint venture to enable EV battery recycling in Norway

Norwegian firm Hydro and Swedish company Northvolt have established a 50/50 joint venture to enable recycling of battery materials and aluminum from used electric vehicle battery packs. 

Through Hydro Volt AS, the companies plan to build a battery recycling plant in Fredrikstad, Norway, with production expected to start next year.

Alfen selected by Vattenfall to supply a 20MWh energy storage system in Sweden

Energy storage system developer Alfen has been selected by Swedish power company Vattenfall to deploy a 5MW/20MWh system in its home country.

The system in Uppsala will be the third large-scale energy storage system that the Netherland’s-based developer has delivered to the government-owned multinational.

Azelio inaugurates thermal energy storage project in Morocco

The launch of Swedish firm Azelio’s thermal energy storage system in Morocco was marked with an inauguration ceremony on 5 March.

The installation at the firm’s Noor Ouarzazate solar complex follows a joint technical and business development agreement between Azelio and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN).

Azelio plans 25 MW of energy storage installations in Jordan

Swedish thermal energy storage developer Azelio has outlined plans to deploy about 25MW of its systems in Jordan after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with contracting firm Hussein Atieh & Sons (HAE).

The pair announced on 13 January they would deliver the capacity through 2023 under the commercial collaboration starting with a 50kW installation in the final quarter of this year.

Gigafactory firm Northvolt to deploy lithium-ion ESS to charge electric vehicles

Swedish firms Northvolt and Mälarenergi have partnered to deploy a 220kW/320kWh lithium-ion energy storage system to power an electric vehicle charging station in their home country.

Gigafactory developer Northvolt will deliver the lithium-ion battery system based around its Voltrack modular battery system in Västerås, Sweden.
