ESS capacity reaches 2GWh as YoY deployment in the US almost doubles

Deployment of energy storage has reached a cumulative capacity of almost 2GWh in the US, according to the latest report by the non-profit power organisation Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA).

The organisation’s 2019 Utility Energy Storage Market Snapshot found a total of 760MWh of energy storage was deployed in the US energy storage market last year, a 45% increase over 2017.

UK firm Moixa is once again testing the benefits of batteries for homeowners and utilities in making use of renewable energy.

The residential energy storage firm, along with utility Northern Powergrid (NP) and community renewable energy group Energise Barnsley teamed up to demonstrate how batteries can utilise solar energy.

US deployment of energy storage up— as California slips down rankings

Deployment of energy storage rose slightly in the US with lithium-ion projects by utilities continuing to dominate the market.

The US deployed 41.2 MW of energy storage in Q2 2016 (up 1% year-on-year), with behind-the-meter deployments increasing 3% from Q1, according to GTM Research and the Energy Storage Association (ESA).
