Renault sets up energy service subsidiary

French car giant Renault has launched a new subsidiary to invest in the development of secondary use of electric vehicle batteries (EV) for stationary energy storage and smart charging networks.

The new division, Renault Energy Services (RES), said it will research “vehicle-to-grid interaction to expand electric mobility and develop smart grids”.

BMW and PG&E partner for EV charging demand response programme

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and BMW are to collaborate in a pilot programme to test the potential for electric vehicle (EV) batteries to provide services to the electric grid.

During the 18-month-programme, BMW will provide at least 100KW to PG&E’s demand response management services.
