One in three bicycles on the road will be an E-bike by 2050 according to Electric Bikes Worldwide Reports (EBWR) representing an enormous boost for battery sales.
Published and written by Frank Jamerson, Ph.D. and Ed Benjamin, who have 40 years experience in the electric bike business. The 2015 edition includes estimates on electric bike and scooter sales worldwide with projections to 2035.
EBWR estimates worldwide e-bike sales at 36,881,000 for 2014 and 100,000,000 worldwide e-bike sales in 2035. Growth in Southeast Asia, Africa and South America will have the greatest impact for expanded growth out to 2050.
EBWR 2015 suggests e-bike business paradigm shifts may be underway.
1) Auto makers, and auto suppliers, are entering the two-wheel business with expanded technology and marketing options.
2) The collision avoidance technology explosion in the four-wheel market will be adapted to e- bikes making them virtually collision free eventually. E-bike sales will then ‘explode”, say the authors ( hopefully it won’t be the batteries—Ed).
