Lead battery maker EnerSys has begun the process of indefinitely suspending its operations in Russia following the country’s military action against Ukraine.
The US headquartered company told BEST they planned to complete the process as soon as possible.
Enersys has eight employees in Ukraine that support a small warehouse and office in country’s capital Kyiv, and 43 in Russia who work in sales and service centers to accommodate customers.
The firm does not expect the suspension to have a material impact on financial results.
David Shaffer, president and chief executive officer of EnerSys, said: “We are deeply saddened by the violence in Ukraine and stand firmly with the Ukrainian people. As the situation continues to unfold, our top priority is the safety of our employees in Ukraine and in Russia. We are suspending our operations in Russia and will comply fully with all sanctions.”
Enersys makes lead batteries including AGM, gel and thin plate pure lead of which it launched a series of smaller 12V lead-acid batteries for small traction motive power applications using the technology in 2020.
In 2019, Enersys announced plans to target the defence and aerospace sectors as it pushed deeper into the lithium-ion battery storage market.
