On 15 October 2025, recell.store convened the inaugural meeting of the 4R Battery Alliance, uniting key influencers, operators and policy makers from across the EV battery ecosystem.
Chaired by Tom Rumboll, board advisor and principal of TR Advisory, the initiative marks a significant step towards uniting the UK’s electric vehicle battery ecosystem under a shared mission: accelerating reuse, repurposing, recycling and resource recovery.
The Alliance brings together influential stakeholders from across the EV battery supply chain, including OEMs, recyclers, fleet operators, insurers and energy innovators. Attendees included representatives from Nissan Energy, Zenith, Halfords Auto Centres, Direct Line Group, Ctrent, Altilium, Enva, Allye, LKQ Synetiq and recell.store itself.
Discussions centred on key challenges and opportunities in the UK’s EV battery landscape. With critical minerals already being recovered from battery waste domestically, the Alliance aims to position the UK as a global leader in circular battery practices, supporting the broader transition to net zero.
Tom Rumboll commented, “The 4R Battery Alliance is about connecting, informing, inspiring – and most importantly – making things happen. By bringing together key voices from across the supply chain, we can ensure the UK leads the world in sustainable battery recovery, reuse and recycling.”
The group identified five priority areas for action:
- Battery testing to ensure consistency and confidence
- Transparent information sharing across the supply chain
- Skills and resources to manage end-of-life volumes
- Consumer engagement to support electrification
- Safety and standards to protect people and planet
