Engineering company ABB said it is introducing nickel-zinc (NiZn) batteries to its range of power protection products for data centres. It has chosen ZincFive as a supplier for its uninterruptible power supply (UPS) solutions.
The UPS solutions with NiZn technology take less space, it said, making them ideal for containerised data centres. The lower cooling requirements can also help improve power usage effectiveness, it said. Maintenance requirements are also lower.
ABB’s MegaFlex high-power, high-density UPS global platform provides power availability up to 1.6 MW UL and 2.0 MW IEC. MegaFlex solutions integrating ZincFive’s NiZn batteries are designed for computing environments such as data centres for colocation, cloud hosting, hyperscale as well as AI-powered data centres.
The company said the UPS with ZincFive batteries can be easily deployed within containerised e-houses, allowing higher ambient temperatures. ABB said its service network has successfully deployed over 150 MW of these integrated systems.
