American Battery Technology Company has announced a battery recycling partnership with Call2Recycle, the country’s largest consumer battery collection and stewardship programme.
The collaboration marks a significant shift in ABTC’s strategy, expanding its operations from a business-to-business model to include a direct-to-consumer battery recycling channel –strengthening the circular economy for critical battery metals.
Call2Recycle operates a vast network of drop-off points for end-of-life lithium-ion batteries across the United States. Under the new partnership, selected batteries from this network will be sent to ABTC’s advanced battery recycling facilities. There, they will be processed using ABTC’s award-winning closed-loop system, which efficiently recovers lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese while minimising environmental impact.
“This partnership with Call2Recycle is a pivotal moment for ABTC, as it allows us to directly engage with consumers and extend the reach of our innovative recycling technologies,” said Ryan Melsert, CEO of ABTC. “By creating a seamless and accessible pathway for the public to recycle their batteries, we are not only expanding our operational scope but also reinforcing the domestic supply chain for critical minerals, which is essential for a sustainable energy future.”
Call2Recycle has already recycled over 160 million pounds (more than 70,000 tonnes) of batteries. CEO Leo Raudys added, “Combining a subset of our collection network with ABTC’s cutting-edge recycling process creates a solution that benefits consumers, the environment, and the US economy.”
