Active Power will deploy its CleanSource 750 kVA UPS system at the Dutch brewing company Heineken’s facility in the city of Saint-Denis on the French island of Reunion.
The system shipped in late March 2012 and be deployed in the second quarter of 2012. Netherlands-based Piet Brouwer Elektro is serving as the electrical contractor on the project.
With CleanSource UPS, Active Power says, the brewery is able to deploy a critical backup power system right on its production floor without the need for cooling equipment. A traditional UPS system would have required additional design and build costs to house the batteries in conditioned space which was not an option for the customer.
From an economic standpoint, operating costs are lower and more predictable compared to a conventional system due to CleanSource UPS’ minimal maintenance requirements. “When we approach applications like Heineken, we evaluate design requirements from a holistic perspective to better understand what the customer is trying to achieve not only in terms of availability, but also in terms of energy and space efficiencies,” said Martin Olsen, vice president and general manager at Active Power.
