Swiss joint venture BESS Perlen has ordered a 10MW/20MWh battery energy storage system from ADS-TEC Energy for installation at a paper mill site in Perlen, Switzerland.
The two-hour system will be installed at the Perlen Papier site and is scheduled to enter operation by the end of 2026. Swiss energy company Wattss Group is responsible for project management, including development, technical integration and integration into electricity markets.
BESS Perlen is a joint venture between the mill’s owner, Perlen Industrieholding, and the Valyou Investment Foundation.
Ancillary services to the Swiss electricity grid
The battery will initially earn revenue by providing ancillary services to the Swiss electricity grid. The project partners plan to add trading on the day-ahead and intraday electricity markets later.

Yonten Wagma, managing director of the Valyou Investment Foundation, said: “This project demonstrates how institutional capital, attractive industrial locations and innovative energy technologies can create sustainable and attractive infrastructure assets.”
ADS-TEC Energy will supply the battery system, drawing on its experience in battery storage, power electronics and energy management systems. The announcement did not disclose the system’s battery chemistry but the pictured ADS-TEC BESS 5000 is an LFP-based system.

Perlen Papier manufactures newsprint and magazine paper at the industrial site in the canton of Lucerne.
