Airengy has signed a partnership agreement with Nobian to assess the feasibility of developing a long-duration compressed air energy storage project in Denmark.
The proposed facility would connect to an existing Nobian-operated salt cavern and provide a storage capacity of 2.5GWh (2,500MWh), with an output of between 3MW and 10MW. The collaboration will evaluate Airengy’s AirBattery technology for large-scale energy storage.
The Danish project is Airengy’s fourth announced power plant partnership in Europe, following agreements in England with KISTOS, Romania with Hagag Europe and Germany with SEFE. The company said the latest deal completes its strategy of establishing operations across its key European target markets.
Under the agreement, Nobian will manage work relating to the salt cavern, including regulatory and permitting processes, stakeholder engagement and associated infrastructure, while remaining the licence holder and operator. Airengy will be responsible for the AirBattery system design, air compression and electricity generation using its proprietary technology.
The project forms part of Airengy’s two-phase strategy announced in December, which includes developing smaller power plants in England and Romania while advancing larger-scale projects in Romania and Denmark.
