Sweden-based Alelion Energy Systems has clinched a deal which it says could be the “first step” to it supplying batteries to Toyota trucks globally.
Alelion has previously been a supplier of lithium-ion batteries to the European arm of Toyota’s truck business— Toyota Material Handling (TMH) Europe, which manufacturers forklifts and other material handling vehicles.
Now Alelion has signed a framework agreement with the Toyota Industries Corporation which Alelion said would see its batteries evaluated “for possible use in trucks that are also produced for the rest of TMH’s global markets.
BBB reported last week on the growing impact of lithium-ion power in the traditional lead-acid traction market.
Earlier this year, Alelion acquired the whole portfolio of Caterva— a German liquidation company specialising in advanced technology for energy storage systems, after announcing plans to build “Sweden’s first large-scale” lithium batteries plant near Gothenburg.
