Altilium has deployed ReGenTrace AI, an advanced battery analytics and digital‑traceability system developed by Materia AI, to serve as the digital operating backbone of its UK EV battery recycling operations.
The cloud‑native platform marks a major step in Altilium’s progression from a clean‑tech innovator to a fully integrated critical materials platform capable of supporting a competitive, circular EV battery supply chain.
ReGenTrace AI will be central to scaling Altilium’s ACT3 commercial recycling facility in Plymouth, improving automation of feedstock supply and enabling real‑time optimisation of process economics. Materia AI, founded by Altilium COO Dr Christian Marston, developed the platform with support from Innovate UK’s Early Stage Growth Catalyst programme. Following successful MVP validation, Materia AI has now been fully integrated into Altilium.
Dr Marston said: “The UK’s leadership in battery technologies will depend on more than new factories. It will require intelligent, connected supply chains.” He added that combining advanced recycling with digital intelligence will help build a resilient, traceable and circular supply chain for critical battery materials.
The platform enables automated identification and characterisation of incoming battery materials using machine learning, computer vision and analytics. It can classify chemistries, manufacturers, formats, state of health and safety risks, directing batteries through the most appropriate dismantling and recycling pathway. Predictive models estimate black‑mass composition, including lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite, allowing optimisation of reagents, refining conditions and production scheduling.
ReGenTrace AI also establishes a digital thread across the circular battery supply chain, supporting future Battery Passport requirements and enabling integration with recell.store for automated valuation of used EV batteries. By combining industrial plants, hydrometallurgical technology and AI within one platform, Altilium aims to accelerate innovation and strengthen the UK’s domestic battery‑materials ecosystem.
