Amprius Technologies has shipped its proprietary SiCore® lithium battery cells to several advanced drone and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturers from its pilot production line in Fremont, California.
The shipments include high-energy 450Wh/kg cells delivered to Airbus subsidiary AALTO, as well as balanced energy-and-power cells supporting a mix of tactical and commercial drone applications. These deliveries mark a critical step in transitioning Amprius’ silicon anode technology from prototype to deployment.
Customer qualification for SiCore cells typically begins at the Fremont pilot facility, enabling rapid development for high-altitude and endurance missions.
“Amprius’ SiCore cells represent a major advancement in energy performance, supporting the ultra-lightweight, long-endurance requirements of our high-altitude operations,” said Pierre-Antoine Aubourg, CTO of AALTO. “Their silicon anode technology has already enabled Zephyr to operate in the stratosphere overnight for months at a time, an unprecedented milestone in persistent flight.”
Dr Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies, added, “We are expanding our pilot production in Fremont to meet a strong increase from leading drone manufacturers. Shipping our industry-leading SiCore cells to AALTO and other leading drone OEMs marks another key milestone in our commercial scale-up. From high-energy HAPS cells to balanced-performance drone batteries, we’re now delivering solutions that meet a wide range of advanced mission needs.”
Amprius’ Fremont HQ remains central to R&D and pilot-scale production, including development of the SiCore 370Wh/kg High Power cell – engineered to deliver outstanding energy and power in a compact format. To meet surging demand, Amprius has secured 1.8GWh of manufacturing capacity through global partnerships, including a strategic agreement in South Korea. These efforts support scale-up across the aerospace, defense and electric mobility sectors.
