Arkema has signed an MoU with Semcorp for strategic collaboration to accelerate innovation in battery separator technologies and support Semcorp’s international expansion.
Under the partnership, Arkema will deliver high value-added solutions and technical expertise to strengthen the deployment of Semcorp’s high-performance battery separators across key markets including electric vehicles, energy storage systems and consumer electronics. The collaboration also focuses on joint development of next-generation separators, combining both companies’ innovations to enhance safety, efficiency and durability.
Separators are critical to lithium-ion batteries, preventing short circuits between the anode and cathode while enabling ionic transport. Battery separator design directly influences safety, thermal stability and lifespan. Arkema’s portfolio, featuring Kynar® PVDF and Incellion™ acrylic-based solutions, is tailored to meet rising demand for safer and more reliable batteries essential to clean mobility and renewable energy storage.
Semcorp, headquartered in China and supplying major battery manufacturers worldwide, will benefit from Arkema’s advanced materials expertise. “Building on Arkema’s longstanding legacy of innovation in advanced materials for battery technologies, the strategic collaboration with our partner Semcorp is essential to driving technological breakthroughs and securing long-term leadership in a rapidly evolving industry,” said Thierry Le Henaff, chairman and CEO of Arkema.
Tony Xiaohua Li, CEO of Semcorp, added, “This collaboration will not only accelerate the development of high-performance separators and their expansion into global markets, but also strengthen the leading positions of both parties in the industry.”
