Australian battery materials start-up company Nano-Nouvelle has won deals with two US battery makers to test its battery boosting 3D nanotechnology.
The ‘Nanode’ concept – a 3D nano-structured, porous electrode that can boost the energy storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries by up to 50% – came in 2011, with a successful $3.7 million round of cleantech investor funding last June.
These deals are expected to take the product closer to the market.
Nano-Nouvelle’s new US partners will test how the Nanode’s work with their technologies in their high performance batteries used in industries including the aerospace sector.
The company is focusing on how to integrate nanotechnology into potential partners’ manufacturing process.
Nano-Nouvelle CEO Stephanie Moroz, said: “It’s hard to go from zero to high volume production, however Nano-Nouvelle is in a good position to support field trials by specialist companies, which work at smaller volumes, are less cost sensitive and are incredibly focused on improving the performance of their batteries.
“We’re looking to make it plug and play for battery manufacturers.
“Our goal is for them to take our electrode, match it with their other components and run it through their standard assembly processes.”
