UK-based Autocraft Solutions Group plans to expand its electric vehicle battery remanufacturing network across Europe as the first wave of mass-market EVs approaches end of life.
The company, which repairs and remanufactures batteries at facilities in Grantham, UK, and Arnhem, Netherlands, has identified Germany, Spain and Italy as priority markets for expansion.
Autocraft said its two workshops currently process 300–400 battery packs a month for vehicle manufacturers.
Its REVIVE system diagnoses and repairs failed packs by replacing defective cells or modules while retaining functioning components. The company claims most failures are localised and that packs can typically be restored to more than 90% of their original performance.
Battery condition is assessed using Autocraft’s OptEVizer testing platform. The system actively stress-tests the battery rather than relying solely on data from its battery management system. Results are compared with a digital twin containing thousands of test cycles and millions of data points to identify weakened cells and calculate an independent state of health.
Autocraft said the approach could reduce the premature recycling of packs that remain largely serviceable. Data from RECOVAS, a UK government-backed consortium involving vehicle manufacturers, recyclers and academic partners, indicated repairing an 82.5kWh battery instead of replacing it could avoid about 12 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
The company’s technology received the inaugural Green Award at the 2026 Automechanika Frankfurt Innovation Awards. Its REVIVE workshops were selected from 185 international entries.
Mike Hague-Morgan, executive director and co-owner of Autocraft Solutions Group, said the expected rise in failures from ageing EV batteries made replacement and recycling an unsustainable default response.
“Most batteries can be restored to optimal health, making repair the only logical way forward,” he said.
Hague-Morgan also called for vehicle manufacturers and legislators to ensure future battery packs are designed for repair.
“If we do not act now, we risk locking in a throwaway model at exactly the point the volume is about to arrive,” he said.
Autocraft provides battery triage, fixed-workshop remanufacturing, and vehicle collection and return services. In addition to battery packs, its EV Solutions division repairs and remanufactures electric motors.
