Battery diagnostics specialist Aviloo is extending its independently underwritten battery warranty for used electric vehicles to eight additional European markets, including the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
The Austrian company said the warranty will come into effect in July in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Ireland and Switzerland, following earlier launches in France and Sweden in June.
The product is designed to address concerns over battery condition in the growing used EV market. It is based on the company’s manufacturer-independent Flash Test and provides buyers with compensation if battery health falls below a predetermined threshold during the warranty period.
Under the scheme, an individual minimum state-of-health (SoH) level is calculated for each vehicle using data from Aviloo’s battery diagnostics database. The warranty covers one year and 20,000km. If a battery’s SoH falls below the calculated threshold during that period, the owner receives compensation of £2,700 and reimbursement of the Flash Test cost.
The warranty is issued separately from the company’s battery certificate and is administered through Aviloo Connect, a digital platform intended for dealers, fleet operators and remarketing companies.
Aviloo’s three-minute diagnostic procedure
The system relies on the Aviloo Flash Test, a three-minute diagnostic procedure that assesses battery capacity, thermal management and charging performance against factory specifications. The company said the test covers 96% of EV models currently on the road.
Marcus Berger, chief executive officer of Aviloo, said: “The Aviloo Battery Warranty raises the used electric vehicle market to a new level. For the first time in the UK, we are providing the foundation for a warranty based solely on objective, independent measurement data. This builds trust and gives British dealers and buyers a level of certainty that simply has not existed before. The UK has one of Europe’s most dynamic used EV markets, and we see enormous appetite from both dealers and consumers to get this right. With the Battery Warranty, we are setting a new industry standard – one that provides orientation for all market participants, strengthens the case for electric mobility, and ensures that used EVs are seen not as a risk, but as a sustainable, trustworthy choice.”
Aviloo said its battery diagnostics database is the largest of its kind and forms the basis for the actuarial model used to underpin the warranty.
The company has already secured agreements with several major automotive and mobility groups. Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Porsche Holding have selected Aviloo as their preferred third-party battery testing provider for dealerships across Europe, while leasing companies Ayvens and Arval use the technology in end-of-lease remarketing operations.
Auction companies BCA and Cox Automotive have also integrated the Flash Test into their European businesses, alongside dealer groups Hedin and Emil Frey.
Aviloo said all of these arrangements are based on European-level agreements.
