Balance Power has secured planning approval for its 49.5MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Radwell Bury, Hertfordshire.
Once operational, the facility will provide energy for approximately 26,767 homes and is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by around 18,281 tonnes annually – the equivalent of removing 13,115 cars from the road or planting 29,250 trees. The site will house 48 battery units with a two-hour storage duration.
Balance Power has committed to delivering a 44.25% biodiversity net gain across the site, with a landscape scheme that protects existing woodland belts, hedgerows and meadow grasslands. The project received unanimous approval from North Herts Council following a comprehensive community consultation. The company worked closely with residents, the town council, and local councillors to address concerns and adapt the design to meet local needs.
Balance Power is now working to secure a grid connection date. At the end of the project’s lifecycle, the site will be decommissioned and restored for agricultural use.
