Ionetic has confirmed its 100MWh battery-pack manufacturing plant will be fully operational by Q3 this year.
The 5,000ft2 Arc Fab Pilot production facility is capable of producing a variety of battery pack designs on a single manufacturing line.
The £5 million ($6.4million) facility will also serve as the UK company’s global HQ and industrialisation centre.
The facility in Brackley, Northamptonshire, will use the company’s AI-supported Arc system, which is designed to provide custom battery packs for OEMs producing under 10,000 units per year.
The Arc system uses an ‘integrated network of software tools, hardware components, and fabrication technologies’ to speed up the development of custom battery packs.
Ionetc’s CEO James Eaton told news agency Reuters his company will be able to help automakers develop in-house battery packs for under £1million.
The company’s key market is specialist OEMs – such as truck, bus, off-highway and commercial vehicles makers – who require customised EV battery packs.
New CTO
The company strengthened its leadership in March with the appointment of Steve Boulter as its chief technology officer (CTO).
Boulter will lead the firm’s technology strategy, overseeing the delivery of its Arc technology stack.
Boulter joins Ionetic from Agratas – a battery business within the Tata Group – where he was vice president of product engineering.
Before that, he was head of advanced battery development at Jaguar Land Rover. While at the firm he led the vehicle engineering for Jaguar’s all-electric vehicle, the I-PACE.
