A battery recycling facility in Ohio, US, is exposing staff to hazardous airborne metals— despite agreeing to put controls in place to limit exposure more than two years ago.
Retriev Technologies, headquartered in California, was ordered to put controls in place by the US Department of Labour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 2012.
OSHA found workers were exposed to high concentrations of lead and cadmium.
On August 14 this year, OSHA inspectors cited the company for eight repeated and one serious health violation. Proposed penalties total US$74,250.
Retriev Technologies has facilities in Canada, Ohio and Pennsylvania. It has 15 business days from receipt of its citations to comply.
