Battery Council International (BCI) has welcomed the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law by President Trump on 4 July, which preserves the Section 45X Advanced Manufacturing Production Credits – vital incentives for domestic battery manufacturing.
The move is being hailed as a major win for the US battery industry, reinforcing the strategic importance of homegrown energy storage technologies. According to BCI, the retention of 45X credits signals a strong federal commitment to bolstering America’s manufacturing base and maintaining its global leadership in battery innovation.
“This vote sends a powerful message that America is committed to building and maintaining the world’s most advanced battery manufacturing ecosystem,” said Roger Miksad, BCI president and executive director. “These credits don’t just support individual companies – they strengthen our entire domestic supply chain and ensure America remains the global leader in battery innovation.”
The 45X credits have already spurred billions of dollars in domestic investment and led to the creation of thousands of manufacturing jobs across the US. BCI argues that these incentives are critical to ensuring economic security, energy independence, and long-term competitiveness.
With a legacy spanning more than 125 years, the US battery industry supports a wide range of applications, from automotive and telecommunications to data centres and national defence. BCI said the continued support for manufacturing incentives will help secure technologies essential to grid stability and national security.
Since the 2024 election, BCI has led a robust advocacy campaign to safeguard the credits, including policy briefings, direct engagement with Congressional offices, and transition documents for the incoming administration.
BCI, which represents over 140 member companies, reaffirmed its commitment to working with federal leaders to advance policies that support domestic manufacturing, job creation, and innovation in the energy storage sector.
