US-based battery charging and test equipment manufacturer Bitrode has introduced an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) formation charger in North America.
The HD-CR/CD is designed for charging SLI batteries (flooded and VRLA/AGM), motive power batteries and industrial cells. It operates at 16KHz and allows users to achieve efficiency and power factors of up to 99%, according to Missouri-based Bitrode.
The formation charger replaces the need for power factor correction. The system offers constant current and voltage control as well as individual circuit control and parallel circuit connection.
The company claimed that the HD-CR/CD enables cost savings and is environmentally responsible. The charger can be integrated into any facility’s power grid.
“The HD-CR/CD’s enhanced performance may be the difference that will allow an existing facility to increase their production capacity without having to increase their facility’s electrical service or distribution system by replacing their existing SCR technology based systems,” said John Grimm, Bitrode director of sales and marketing.
Bitrode recently introduced a battery laboratory testing system for high power applications. The company is part of the Sovema family of companies.
