BlueOval SK has officially launched commercial battery production at its Kentucky 1 facility in Glendale, marking a major milestone in the company’s US manufacturing strategy. The first battery unit rolled off the assembly line this week and will be used in Ford’s all-electric F-150 Lightning.
“We are proud to build batteries at our Kentucky 1 facility that will power next-generation electric vehicles,” said BlueOval SK CEO, Michael Adams. “The start of production is a significant milestone that strengthens our position in the electric vehicle battery market.”
The site, part of the BlueOval SK Battery Park campus, will also supply batteries for Ford’s E-Transit electric van with enhanced range. More than 1,450 employees are expected to gather this week to celebrate the launch.
“We are one team,” said Kentucky 1 Plant Manager, Mark Hayley. “Every person here played a vital role in reaching this point. I couldn’t be prouder of the hard work and dedication that have set BlueOval SK up for success.”
The battery production facility is central to Ford’s broader electrification plans and reflects growing investment in domestic battery supply chains. “BlueOval SK is creating good-paying, American jobs in the heart of the Commonwealth,” Adams added. “We are strengthening the domestic supply chain and driving the transition to zero-emissions transportation.”
