A 3D graphene nanocomposite lithium-ion battery material with high capacity and long life has been developed by Hefei Institutes of Physical Science Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
This new development makes it possible to increase the active material load quantity, and shorten the ionised electron transport path.
The 3D graphene / V2O5 cathode material achieved more than 200mAh/g after 2,000 full charge and discharge cycles.
The 3D graphene is five times quicker to charge compared with current industry standards, claim CAS.
In addition, the structure design of 3D graphene composite battery material can be applied to lithium-ion battery anode materials, such as the development of the graphene / silicon composite anode, which shows a good versatility.
Chinese production capacity of graphene has accounted for 70% of global production.
China Innovation Alliance of the Graphene Industry predicts the capacity would reach 1,000 tons in the next 5-10 years. And by 2020, the global graphene market will exceed ¥100 billion (about $15 billion).
