US cell manufacturer Oakridge Global Energy Solutions has bought a bespoke state-of the-art lithium-ion battery making machine to help with its research and development programme.
The $1.2 million advanced electrode coating and drying machine was designed for lithium-ion battery manufacturing by Screen Finetech Solutions Co, Ltd. of Japan.
This custom built RT Series machine uses Screen Finetech’s technological experience from Flat Panel Displays to optimise the uniformity of the coating process.
The newly developed drying system is also expected to deliver a higher quality product at a greater production rate.
Steve Barber, CEO and executive chairman of Oakridge, said: “This sophisticated equipment will initially be utilised by Oakridge for research and development applications, but eventually will also be used by tertiary education students at our newly created Oakridge Center for Advanced Energy Technology (C-Tech) located in Palm Bay, Florida.”
Oakridge manufacturers lithium-ion smart energy cells for military, civilian and medical applications.
