Clarios is expanding its engineering partnership with Romanian automotive engineering company Piaxo to support research and development (R&D) and future mobility technologies.
The collaboration will increase R&D activity in Romania as Clarios continues to expand its European technology footprint in advanced battery and low-voltage systems.
Piaxo’s multidisciplinary engineering capabilities are being connected with Clarios’ global technology organisation through a new centre in Timișoara. Both companies will remain separate organisations with distinct roles and responsibilities.
The centre will support projects including battery management systems (BMS) for next-generation energy storage technologies, covering sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries. Work will also extend to inverter and supercapacitor technologies used in modern vehicles and safety-critical applications.
Piaxo has expanded its engineering team in Timișoara since the partnership began and now employs nearly 50 engineering professionals. The team provides expertise across software, systems engineering, validation and other areas supporting advanced low-voltage system development.
The latest announcement coincides with Piaxo’s expansion into its mixed-use ISHO office location in Timișoara. The site includes engineering facilities and a development and testing laboratory designed to support cross-functional engineering, validation, expertise development and international collaboration.
“This partnership with Piaxo supports our broader technology transformation and strengthens how we collaborate across engineering disciplines,” said Dr. Alexander van Laack, Chief Technology Officer, Clarios. “As low-voltage systems become more advanced, connected and software-enabled, partnerships like this help us combine complementary expertise in a structured and globally connected engineering environment.”
Piaxo founder and CEO Ion Petic said: “Our engineering facilities and development laboratory in Timișoara mark an important step in the development of our engineering capabilities. Our collaboration with Clarios creates opportunities for our engineers to contribute to globally relevant engineering work, build specialised expertise and collaborate with international engineering teams on increasingly complex technology programmes.”
The partnership supports Clarios’ move towards more advanced, connected and software-enabled low-voltage systems while strengthening Piaxo’s role in Romania’s automotive engineering sector.
