There have been periodic reports of laptop computer batteries spontaneously igniting and burning during use, usually attributed to either a manufacturing defect or a design flaw. Can electrochemical capacitors fail as catastrophically and spectacularly as this?
Luckily, it is extremely unlikely for an electrochemical capacitor to fail like this. Reasons include, first of all, that the charge in the capacitor is stored physically and not produced chemically.
