Maritime energy storage firm Corvus Energy has announced plans for an eight-fold increase in the production of lithium-ion batteries.
The Canadian-Norwegian company is to build a new factory in the Bergen region of Norway and expand its production facilities in Vancouver to meet increasing demand for maritime batteries.
Corvus said Bergen will host a 400 megawatt-hour (MWh) fully automated factory and a new marine system testing and development facility that will be completed by the summer of 2019.
And the company’s Vancouver is being upgraded to a 200MWh semi-automated battery production plant— also featuring a new product R&D and design and engineering facility. The upgrade is due for completion by the start of 2019.
BBB reported in 2016that Corvus had signed a multi-year supply deal with LG Chem to use the Korean firm’s lithium-ion pouch cells.
