An energy storage system operated in the Danish capital Copenhagen has been handed over to the municipal development company By & Havn following a successful pilot scheme.
The ESS was installed in 2017 in a multi-storey car park as part of a project, EnergyLab Nordhavn, in a city district also called Nordhavn.
The 460kWh/630kW lithium battery system, supplied by ABB, was used to supply local residents at peak times. ABB said it was the first battery system to be placed in a Danish city. On installation, it consisted of five rack cabinets, each containing 14 lithium battery modules; two inverters; a master control system and temperature control/ventilation.
The EnergyLab Nordhavn project ran from 2015 to 2019 and treated the commercial and residential district as a “city laboratory”, drawing international interest, according to By & Havn.
