Battery separator paper manufacturer Delfort has joined the Zinc Battery Initiative (ZBI), the International Zinc Association’s programme, as a member.
The ZBI, which promotes the use of rechargeable zinc batteries, has expanded its membership to include battery suppliers and auxiliary industries as well as zinc manufacturers.
Delfort is known for its fibre-based separator solution in the IonPort product line designed to improve safety, longevity and performance in batteries and supercapacitors. The firm has produced a dedicated zinc-ion line of its battery separator series to meet the specific requirements of that battery chemistry.
ZBI said it is the 28th company to join the organisation, which was formed in 2020 to promote the adoption of recyclable zinc batteries, and this marks a turning point as private and public investment in zinc batteries was $1 billion last year.
Daniel Fischer, head of battery separators, Delfort, said: “We are pleased to join the Zinc Battery Initiative, as we seek to collaborate with leading innovators in zinc battery technology. Rechargeable zinc batteries combined with Delfort’s IonPort® separators represents a powerful step forward in providing safe, sustainable, and high-performance energy storage solutions. By uniting these cutting-edge technologies, we aim to unlock new levels of efficiency and reliability in the battery industry.”
Dr. Josef Daniel-Ivad, head of the ZBI, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Delfort, the perfect complement to the leading zinc battery developers and suppliers comprising ZBI’s membership. ZBI continues to grow as an organization, representing zinc battery developers, suppliers, and other supporting industries – all united in the effort to promote this high performing yet affordable battery technology.”
