Construction equipment manufacturer Doosan Bobcat has opened a new battery pack R&D centre in South Korea for construction and other compact equipment called the eFORCE LAB.
The company plans to develop standardised, modular battery packs, with its first official research project being the Bobcat Standard Unit Pack (BSUP) for construction and material handling equipment.
The BSUP will be designed like building blocks to allow users to expand the battery capacity by stacking modular units.
The solution will first be used for forklifts before being extended to compact loaders, excavators and other products.
The facility, located in Gyeonggi Province outside Seoul, will be used as a hub for testing and developing core battery pack technologies to meet the demands of electrified construction equipment.
In 2023, the company began developing its battery business and deployed its in-house developed LFP batteries on Bobcat forklifts in late 2024. More than 100 units powered by these LFP battery packs have been shipped.
The opening event of the R&D centre was attended by key leadership, including CEO and vice chairman Scott Park, Hyungwon (HW) Park, president of Doosan Bobcat ALAO, and other company executives.
Park said, “Electrification is an inevitable future – it’s a transformation already underway in the construction industry. With eFORCE LAB as our global R&D hub, we’re engineering solutions optimised for the challenging environments construction equipment operates in, defining new standards in the industry.”
