Dubatt Battery Recycling of UAE has contracted to recycle used lead-acid batteries from Du, the country’s telecom and digital services provider.
Mohamed Jabir director of operations at Dubatt, told BEST the deal is to collect, transport and recycle used lead-acid batteries from Du. Volume is anticipated at 200 tonnes of batteries per year, which will result in 100 tonnes of refined lead. That in turn will be supplied to battery manufacturers in UAE and abroad, he said. Eternity Technologies operates two battery manufacturing plants in UAE, Jabir said.
Financial details of the contract, signed last week, were not disclosed.
Dubatt’s plant covers some 50,000m2 and has capacity to recycle up to 50,000 tonnes per year. It is the only formal lead battery recycler in UAE and claims one of the largest facilities in the region. It faces competition from many informal breakers.
The batteries are crushed in a hammer mill and undergo hydro separation to sort the various components. The smelting in rotary furnaces produces jumbo lead bullions which are refined into lead ingots and lead alloys. Dubatt is equipped with machinery from Seri in Italy.
Jabir said the plant is also planning to move into lithium battery recycling. “The building construction starts next month,” he said. “Once the new building is ready, we are planning to order the equipment.”
He said the plan is to be ready by the first quarter of 2026. The company is in the process of finalising contract discussions for the machinery, which will come from Germany and China. It will be ordered next year.
