German mechanical and plant engineering firm Dürr announced it received a “high double-digit million-Euro range” order from Italian battery manufacturer FIB, part of the Seri Industrial Group.
Dürr, which specialises in automation, will be supplying FIB with a turnkey tandem-coater system for electrode coating. The order comprises four anode and four cathode lines, plus calenders, slitters and solvent recovery.
Italy’s FIB, of Teverola, near Naples, is due to begin installation of the equipment in its gigafactory this autumn, with production due to start in 2026. The plant is designed to produce lithium-ion battery cells with a total output of 8GWh per year.
Dürr said the FIB order “is by far the largest project in this business area to date.” Dr Jochen Weyrauch, CEO of Dürr, said: “This major project is of enormous strategic importance and underlines the attractiveness of our range of solutions for the large-scale production of electrodes for batteries.”
