US lead-acid battery manufacturer East Penn Manufacturing has reported strong results from its inaugural public Power2Recycle drive‑thru battery return event, held on 25 April in Lyon Station, Pennsylvania.
Across just four hours, the initiative drew 307 vehicles and recovered 828 used lead batteries, all destined for local recycling within the company’s closed‑loop system.
The event was created to make returning lead batteries simpler and more appealing. Visitors received double the usual reimbursement for eligible units, covering automotive, truck, marine, lawn and garden, and golf cart batteries. Families were also given Power2Recycle‑themed giveaways, with additional chances to win prizes without leaving their vehicles.
“It was a great experience to be a part of an entirely new event that encouraged battery recycling in a way that also provided a service to the community,” said Joel Brady, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at East Penn . “The number of batteries collected far exceeded our expectations. That’s a testament to the participants, our employees, and the recyclability of the product. I can’t help but imagine our company founder looking down and smiling at the event as he was such a big proponent of serving our community and being proactive in protecting the environment.”
Through East Penn’s Power2Recycle campaign, the company has shown commitment to responsible recycling and environmental protection. Lead batteries remain one of the world’s most recyclable consumer products, and programmes like this can help ensure valuable materials are recovered, reused, and transformed into new batteries.
