EDF, the UK-based electricity generator, has signed agreements to optimise two BESS sites with Verdant Energy, the co-located solar and BESS platform owned by the infrastructure firm CVC DIF.
This expands the partnership between EDF and CVC DIF, which include BESS optimisation agreements and contract for difference PPAs for the BESS sites in Walpole and Cowley.
EDF said it will offtake the solar power, as well as trade and optimise the battery from both Verdant Energy sites.
Each co-located site uses the BESS to store energy during peak power generation by solar and export it back onto the grid when demand is high.
The firm said this provides flexibility to the grid, which will be critical to supporting the renewable energy transition and net zero goals, and allows the sites efficiency and output of low carbon energy to be maximised.
The new deal follows the 50MW capacity floor BESS, which was also co-located with a solar site, and the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) deal signed for the Warley BESS site in September 2023.
Stuart Fenner, director of wholesale market service commercial, EDF, said: “We’re thrilled to have signed agreements for two additional co-located solar and battery sites with Verdant Energy, further solidifying our leadership in renewable energy optimisation. These projects exemplify our commitment to innovation and driving value for our partners by leveraging cutting-edge optimisation strategies and co-location efficiencies, while supporting the UK’s goal of achieving a low-carbon, electric future.”
